Going Back in Time

So, about this 'hobby' of mine. :-)
It is called the SCA; or the Society of Creative Anachronism.
We recreate the art and sciences of the Middle Ages.  From armor making, cooking, clothing, weaving, spinning; if they did it then, there is someone in the SCA trying to do it now.
The local group I play with is the Barony of Bryn Madoc.  The center of our group is based in Athens, GA and we have quite a nice size group.  Even so, we are always welcoming of new members.

Here are some pictures of a small sampling of what we do.

This is me finishing up the string for a pouch that I had made.

Here is a picture of my minions participating in youth combat.
Please note the so not medieval safety gear.
We believe in safety first. :-)

This is a picture of my husband in the adult form of heavy weapons combat.
Please note the attempt at wearing "real" armor.  Safety is still important, however, so is historical accuracy.
My husband is the one with the panther on his shield.

This is our group's Baroness giving an award to a friend at Court.
We even had our King and Queen at this event.

We also have feasts where most likely food is served as close to what would have been served in the middle ages as is possible.  No, there are no turkey legs. LOL
We are not like the ren-fairs either.  The ren-fair to us, would be like a Six Flags in Medieval London. ;-)

My family and I have so much fun when we get to get away in time on the weekends.
I'll be sewing this weekend, getting ready for an event next Saturday.  I may even have some thing to enter into an A&S competition. I just may ...

Oh the projects will never end!!!!!!

Right, remember yesterday's post about my works in progress? (WIPs)  Well, here are the main ones for right now.  These are not in any particular order either. ;-)

This is a cotton, wool, silk yarn from Cestari and will be a sweater.

This is a linen and wool needle/pin book that I am making for SCA.

This the bag that I am finish up with the hand sewing. :-)

These lovely balls of yarn are going to be .... Ok, I don't know yet what they will be.  They are a bamboo and silk blend yarn. This is the softest yarn I have ever touched!!!!

This is my scarf that I am making using the same pattern that I made my Mother-in-law's scarf with.  I am using 2 yarns here.  Have to look up the yarns again, I can't remember what each is, but I know that Alpaca and wool are part of each. ;-)

And *this* is the start of my friends 14th Century Hood.  I need to have two of these done by Monday night. Then I can start on mine.
I also am thinking of starting a new scroll, or maybe just an illumination; just for entering into an A&S competition on the 28th.
Well, these are the pictures to go along with my WIPs from yesterday's post. And this is not nearly all the projects I have!!  I have to finish putting trim on my red bliaut, make up my blue underdress, and start on making mock ups of the different ways that one could have/may have created a bliaut. Not to mention that both my younger minions need new 'garb' for the SCA, and hoods, and such.  And then there is the mystery afghan that I will be starting ... soon. ;-)

Yep, I think I have enough to keep me busy.

Wednesday's Works in Progress (WIPs)

Well, today was a good day.  I ran errands and puttered around in the house.  I also scored on some wool for making a few 14th Century Hoods. :-D  I found *just* what I needed in the remnants bin at my local Jo-Ann's fabric store. Not to mention that the remnants were 75% off!!
Wheee!!!!

So, I shall be working on sewing two hoods for a friend; then on my hood, my 2 younger son's hoods, and my hubby's hood all before the last weekend in Jan. We will be going to an event on that Saturday.

I am about finished with the hand-sewing on a computer bag for a friend.  I tend to get ticky about the strength of the stitches for hand-sewing and tend to go overboard with it.

And of course there is hooky stuff!!
I have a sweater that I am working on for myself; as well as a scarf in the same pattern as the one I did for my mother-in-law.
And then there is the yarn I am building up to use in the CAL (crochet-a-long) by Bernat.

I shall attempt to get some really nice pictures of all of these projects and post them ... the colors are fabulous!  If I say so myself.

Well, I am off to dreamland.

Starting off the New Year as a busy, busy bee! A TA-DAA to show!!

I have been in a creative rush, flush, and push since the begging of the New Year!  I am active  with a group called the SCA .  We participate in Medieval re-enactments.  Myself and another Lady in the society decided to make scrolls for our upcoming event this past Saturday.
So, I have a TA-DAA to show you!!

This is the first one to be drawn by me.  The knot work was traced out, but everything else was hand drawn by my own little hands! :-) The calligraphy on this first scroll was done by a friend of mine in the society.

This scroll was the second one draw, first one painted, and the calligraphy was also done by me!!  I am so very proud of myself for making this scroll!!  I know the picture quality could be better, but I can live with this. :-)
I am now trying to finish up a computer bag a promised for a gift for a friend's wife, then I'm off to make 2 14th century hoods like you can find Here.  Then I also want to work on recreating a page out of the Book of Kells for an event that is coming up in .... oh .... about 3 weeks!
I also need to get my Christmas decorations down and keep up with the house work, and ...well, you know, life. :-)
I am working on developing a set time everyday where I can sit down and post an entry at least every other day; if not every day. We'll see how that goes. LOL
